Data Specialist
Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking a Data Specialist for the Adolescent Campus.
Scope:
The Outcomes and Research Data Specialist will support Skyland Trail’s Outcomes and Research department in carrying out organizational and clinical data-related tasks and activities. Responsibilities include acquiring, preparing, organizing, tracking and entering data and clinical information collected at the Adolescent Campus in the context of services delivered at Skyland Trail. Other duties will include querying, auditing and reporting data from various organizational datasets in the context of quality improvement and research under the guidance of the Research and Outcomes Coordinator. This position will also provide support to research studies as needed.

Duties:
- Maintain and manage all data collected and reported at the adolescent program by following program techniques, procedures, and policies.
- Continually re-evaluate and establish best-practice data management and techniques.
- Create and maintain record of these techniques and procedures for the department; reporting changes as needed.
- When needed, enter private patient health information into electronic health record, spreadsheets and other software in a manner that maintains the confidentiality of the patient.
- Perform quality assurance checks through monthly audits to ensure data are being entered accurately and in a timely matter.
- Resolve data discrepancies by using standard procedures or notifying Director for resolution.
- Communicate effectively in person and through email with Research and Outcomes Coordinator, Director, Director of Quality Improvement, Director of Nursing, and Chief Medical Officer, team members and external collaborators/institutions as relevant for all data acquisition, processing, storage, extraction, and reporting tasks.
- Assist in preparing outcomes documents and reports for presentations, publication, and funding applications.
- Perform additional administrative duties for department as needed, such as: preparing/updating forms and materials for data collection or presentation, conducting article/literature pulls, etc.
- Independently run analyses for other units (e.g., Development, Quality and Risk) using organization data.
- Create data visualizations.
- Collect and maintain monthly data to monitor organization function.
- Complete CITI certification for human subjects research.
- When needed, perform functions for research studies including but not limited to informed consent.
Other duties/responsibilities:
- Attend team and organizational meetings, activities, and events as required
- Ability to seek guidance as appropriate
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in data management, statistics, the social sciences, public health or related field
Required Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience with data entry into spreadsheets
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative data entry and management in an academic research or healthcare setting
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS, R)
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to systematically track multiple needs/issues simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and in a team while managing time effectively
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
Preferred Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience using an electronic health record
- Experience working with and managing large, complex data sets
- Experience building and managing REDCap projects for electronic data capture
- Experience working with behavioral health data
