The Diocese of Harrisburg is looking for a faith-filled, innovative educator to join the Office of Catholic Education leadership team. The diocese is seeking a dynamic Catholic leader with the experience and entrepreneurial spirit to build upon the transformational change occurring in the twenty-seven (27) elementary schools and six (6) high schools in the diocesan school system.
The Academics and Data Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting our schools by providing expertise and broad oversight of teaching and learning; and by managing and analyzing data related to student performance, institutional vitality, and academic programs. The Academics and Data Specialist is responsible for collecting, managing and analyzing the educational data of the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Harrisburg.
Requirements
Teaching and Learning:
Expertise in the art and science, and best practices, of pedagogy in the modern Catholic school, and of curriculum.
Understanding of the profile of current students in our schools.
Passion for, and experience in, integration of Catholic identity into the curriculum.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in databases and data management.
Experience with tools like Excel, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and various AI platforms.
Analytical Skills:
Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and develop recommendations to optimize academic processes, student performance and institutional vitality.
Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present data findings to various audiences and to collaborate with stakeholders.
Attention to Detail:
High level of accuracy in managing and analyzing data.
Ability to organize information effectively and manage competing priorities.
General Responsibilities
Oversight of Teaching and Learning:
Provide oversight and expectations for teaching and learning, and integration of Catholic identity into the curriculum, in collaboration with principals.
Provide expertise, consultation and professional development in pedagogy and curriculum in the modern Catholic school classroom
Data Collection and Management:
Gather and manage large datasets from various sources, including student information systems and learning management systems.
Ensure data quality and integrity by developing and implementing data management protocols and conducting audits.
Reporting and Compliance:
Prepare and submit required reports to support resource allocation and policy decisions.
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations such as FERPA and institutional policies
Data Analysis:
Perform statistical analysis, and explanatory and predictive modeling, to create reports for decision-making.
Develop dashboards and visualizations to present data insights to stakeholders.
Student Performance and Record Management:
Track student performance and academic benchmarks.
Coordinate with academic departments to update and maintain accurate student records
Major areas of responsibility
Oversee the establishment and reinforcement of a positive, excellent academic culture in our schools
Set and reinforce clear expectations for teaching and learning, and integration of Catholic identity into the classroom
Oversee and collaborate with diocesan assessment committee
Stay current in academic research pertinent to our schools and do research on topics impacting our schools
Plan and oversee the annual diocesan Education Conference
Assist with overall administrative efforts in the schools, including all strategic planning efforts
Oversee implementation and results of Renaissance Star testing and related testing areas
Oversee diocesan academic report cards, with revisions made according to best practices
Oversee implementation and results of ARK testing
Collaborate with all schools on academic matters
Oversee all curriculum and articulation meetings
Oversee the conversation on testing, including Dibels, Star, DRA, AP, SAT, etc., with schools and IU’s
Lead the effort to help schools establish an academic identity, such as STREAM, Dual Immersion, Catholic Classical model, etc.
Build relationships and serve as liaison between the Diocese and Latino and other minority communities to ensure representation in our schools
Assist with studies conducted at the school, deanery or system levels
Collect and analyze all data relevant to the success of schools and RE programs, including data for ongoing initiatives (i.e. enrollment data, performance data, etc.)
Oversee the school Vitality Index process and results
Oversee the diocese-wide efforts in professional development for principals and teachers
Contribute to plans for an intervention program for schools, when needed, to keep our schools open and vibrant
Visiting schools as appropriate and building healthy, collaborative, communicative relationships with all school staff
Build and maintain positive relationships with parish and school leadership
Work with the SIS Administrator on various educational technology programs
Handle other administrative work as needed and all other duties as assigned by the Secretary for Education

Monday to Friday (Evenings and weekends as needed)
In-Person at 4800 Union Deposit Road Harrisburg, PA 17111, 1-2 days a week in the field; and regional business travel as needed.
