JANA’s Data Specialist is responsible for executing on data pipeline, integration, and modeling processes based on the needs of each client project. Working closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and implement data solutions.  



Responsibilities  

  • Data Extraction and Analysis: Query large datasets from cloud based data warehouses (e.g. BigQuery) using SQL to extract relevant pipeline and operational data. Analyze structured and semi-structured data to uncover trends, anomalies and insights 
  • Data Pipeline Development: execute data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to efficiently move and transform data from various sources into structured formats for storage and analysis.  
  • Data Modeling and Schema Design: Implement data models and schemas that align with business requirements, ensuring data consistency, integrity, and performance. Implement data partitioning and indexing strategies to optimize query performance. Validate outputs and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address data discrepancies.  
  • Data Warehouse Management: Maintain data infrastructure, including data warehouses and data marts, ensuring data availability, reliability, and security. Execute scripts to convert OLTP data (online transaction processing) to OLAP data (online analytical processing).  
  • Data Quality and Governance: Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency. Spot data discrepancies and identify data gaps. Enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices to maintain data integrity and compliance. Collaborate with Operations team to resolve data discrepancies or quality issues. 
  • Problem Solving: Address data challenges. Interpret complex data and identify patterns. 
  • Organization Skills: Manage data efficiently, organizing files and maintaining data integrity. Utilize GCP tools (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow) for efficient data processing and storage. 
  • Data Security and Privacy: Follow data security measures and protocols to protect sensitive data. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards.  
  • Infrastructure and Tooling: Implement appropriate data engineering tools, frameworks, and technologies to enhance data processing efficiency, scalability, and maintainability. Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in the data engineering field.  
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: working closely with Operation teams to understand analytical needs and deliver actionable insights.  
  • Process Improvement and Automation: identify opportunities to automate repetitive data tasks using SQL scripts, scheduled queries or GCP workflows. 
  • Documentation and Best Practices: maintain clear and thorough documentation of data sources, logic, workflows and assumptions.

Required Skills & Experience  

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications in data engineering or database management are a plus.  
  • Technical Skills: Advanced SQL and basic Python are required. Experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google is desired. Experience in Power BI is required.  
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant work experience, experience in data engineering is preferred.  
  • Familiar with data management design, delivery, techniques, and systems development methodologies   
  • Data Modeling and Database Management: Basic understanding of data modeling concepts, relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), and data warehousing principles.  
  • Experience in Azure cloud technologies such as Data Factory, Data Bricks, Data Explorer, Data Share, Data Catalogue, Azure Data Lake Storage and other Azure storage mediums (file, blob, etc.), Azure SQL Database   
  • Data Governance: Understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and data security best practices.  
  • Communication: Good communication skills and can gather input from various stakeholders 
  • Collaboration: Proven to work effectively with others to achieve positive results  
  • Ability to travel across the US and Canada, if required.
