Financial Analyst

Summary

Provides professional-level financial knowledge and skills, including budget, economic, and performance metrics monitoring and analysis to support financial decision-making under direct supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares operating/grants/capital budgets with departments by basing budget on actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports, and other factors;
  • Monitors and tracks operating/grants/capital budgets forΒ financial reporting;
  • Develops current year estimate on department expenditures and revenue.
  • Writes and reviewsΒ financial documents;
  • Monitors and tracks performance measures and provides internal review and assessment of department measures to confirm data and trend accuracy and the appropriateness of the methodology used in measurement creation and tracking;
  • Assists in the compilation of monthly management reports.
  • Conducts research for special projects;
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies;
  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting, public administration, or a related field, or any combination of relevant education and experience that provides the following:

Valid Driver's license

Based on qualifications applicant may be eligible for a Financial Analyst I - IV position.

  • Financial Analyst II - requiresΒ two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: accounting, auditing, budget preparation/analysis, financial, statistical analysis.
  • Financial Analyst III - requiresΒ four years full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: accounting, auditing, budget preparation/analysis, financial, statistical analysis.
    • Prefer experience in local government budgeting.
    • Prefer a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Financial Analyst IV -Β Prefer experience in local government budgetingΒ 
    • Prefer a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
Starting salaries
  • Financial Analyst I: $50,689.60 annually
  • Financial Analyst II: $55,889.60 annually
  • Financial Analyst III:Β $63,772.80 annually
  • Financial Analyst IV:$73,840.00 annually

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of financial management;
  • Principles and practices of financial and quantitative analysis;
  • Principles and practices of public administration and budgeting.

  • Develop financial forecasts;

Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds;
