The Legal & Business Operations Data Analyst supports the firmβs leadership and administrative departments by collecting, organizing, and analyzing data across multiple systems to drive strategic and operational initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Serve as the firmβs primary owner of data analytics, including reporting standards, dashboard architecture, and KPI definitions across legal and administrative departments.
- Partner directly with firm leadership and department heads to translate business questions into analytical frameworks, metrics, and dashboards.
- Proactively identify insights and performance indicators leadership may not explicitly request, and recommend new analyses to support strategic decisions.
- Pull, organize, and analyze data from the firmβs finances, timekeeping, and billing systems to identify trends, support decision-making, and improve operational performance.
- Provide strategic reporting and insight on realization, effective rates, client profitability, practice group performance, and attorney productivity to support leadership decision-making
- Develop executive-level dashboards highlighting key operational drivers, including utilization, leverage, margin, and working capital performance
- Identify trends and risks in billing realization, collections, WIP, and aged receivables, and recommend data-driven improvements
- Deliver profitability analysis by client, matter, practice group, and timekeeper to inform pricing, staffing, and growth strategies
- Translate operational data into actionable insights to improve revenue capture, efficiency, and overall firm performance
- Run regular weekly and monthly reports to support business goals across operations, client service, and client relations.
- Provide firm leadership with insights and visual analyses derived from structured and unstructured data sources.
Technical
- Design and maintain automated data pipelines using PowerBi, Power Apps, Power Automate, Python, SQL, PowerShell, APIs, and scripting tools.
- Experience with SharePoint architecture and web technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript preferred).
- Develop internal tools, web-based or custom web components to extend visualizations and analytics
- Collaborate with IT or vendors on system integrations, upgrades, and data migrations, serving as the analytics subject-matter expert.
Data Management & Quality
- Maintain and improve data hygiene across multiple databases, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
- Perform data cleanup and maintenance projects to enhance reporting reliability and system efficiency.
- Gather, validate, and integrate data from multiple systems and locations into consolidated reports and dashboards.
- Elicit requirements from non-technical stakeholders, clarify ambiguous requests, and shape analytical solutions.
- Present insights to executive, C-suite and administrative management, including narrative-driven dashboards and written summaries.
System Integration & Automation
- Build and manage SharePoint lists with advanced functionality, connecting data from multiple systems for leadership access and workflow automation.
- Develop forms that automatically funnel data into spreadsheets or dashboards for real-time tracking and executive review.
- Use AIPs, PowerShell scripts, and automation tools to connect systems, push and pull data, and streamline processes.
- Assist in the transition and quality assurance of data between the firmβs management systems and new software platforms.
Business Intelligence & Visualization
- Design, maintain, and enhance dashboards and visual reports in Power BI to monitor KPIs and business trends.
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
- Support firm initiatives in financial analysis, client relationship management, and business development through data-driven insights.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelorβs degree in Data Analytics, Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or operations analysis.
- Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal oversight in a fast-paced professional environment.
- Comfortable operating as a single-contributor analytics function, setting priorities and managing workload across departments.
- Ability to balance ad hoc executive requests with long-term analytics initiatives.
- Prior experience in a professional services or law firm setting preferred.
- Advanced Excel (including pivot tables, formulas, macros, and data modeling).
- Advanced SharePoint functionality, including list setup, permissions, or automation.
- Power BI for dashboard creation and data visualization.
- Experience with APIs and data integration across systems.
- Experience with Python for data applications.
- PowerShell scripting for workflow automation and data transfer.
- Working knowledge of SQL or other database query tools preferred.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to explain complex data concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and system integrity.

Salary Description
$90,000 - $130,000
