Summary
- Summary: Under the direction of the Health Information Management Director, the Oncology Data Specialist is responsible for the accurate collection, analysis, and management of cancer related patient data. This role supports regulatory and accreditation compliance by maintaining high quality oncology databases including cancer registries and ensuring adherence to state and national reporting standards. Key responsibilities include abstracting medical records, completing necessary follow up on existing cases, and ensuring completeness and accuracy of oncology data. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of oncology terminology, staging systems and treatment protocols. Attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
- Experience: minimum of 1 year of oncology data/cancer registry preferred
- License/Certification: preferred: ODS (oncology Data Specialist), RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator, RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or ability to achieve within 1 year of hire
- Education: Required: Associates β Health Information Management or related field
- Other: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in data abstraction, attention to detail, ability to trend and analyze data, Cerner Oracle knowledge preferred
