Job Summary

Join NAV CANADA’s Data Analytics team as a Power BI Developer and play a key role in designing and delivering impactful analytics solutions that drive innovation across Canada’s air navigation system.

As a Power BI Developer, you’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of Business Analysts, Data Engineers, and peer Report Developers to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Power BI solutions. You will build intuitive dashboards, scalable semantic models, and governed datasets that enable business intelligence, operational insights, and strategic planning across the organization.

You will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to translate business requirements into high-performing, secure, and user-friendly analytics solutions. Your expertise in data modeling, DAX, performance optimization, and governance best practices will help ensure accuracy, consistency, and scalability across the Power BI ecosystem. You will also contribute to solution architecture decisions, promote certified content and reusable assets, and support the adoption of modern BI capabilities.

You will demonstrate innovation in leveraging Microsoft technologies across the Power Platform and Azure ecosystem. A strong understanding of Microsoft Fabric enablement, including Lakehouse architecture, Direct Lake, dataflows, and semantic models is essential, along with experience using Power BI Copilot and the broader Copilot ecosystem to accelerate insights, enhance user experience, and guide responsible adoption.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide expertise in Microsoft Power BI technology and Microsoft Fabric, including data design and development, reporting, dashboards, metrics, analytics and governance.
  • Participate in complex or multiple complex projects across the full lifecycle (requirements gathering, analysis, design development, testing, and implementation) for new features and enhancements to applications.Β  This includes solution evaluation, cost-benefit analysis, planning, resource estimation, solution architecture design, coaching others on project issues and recommending solutions.
  • Develop and maintain communications with business stakeholders to understand their needs, advise on changes to plans, priorities, and shifts in processes affecting business requirements, processes, and workflow.
  • Actively support the on-going life-cycle activities, platform maintenance, performance optimum, capacity assessment, monitoring, availability, security and communications interfaces, and technical support.Β  Ensure Fabric governance, workspace management, and security controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Monitor incident, request, and change management tickets and processes to ensure service levels are met. Establish procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead and participate in the Power BI user group community to share emerging technology advancements, maintain the engagement with stakeholders and support the development of self-service workloads.
  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot within Power BI to enhance report development, DAX generation, data exploration, and insight discovery; coach and support team members and business users in the effective, responsible, and governed use of Copilot capabilities.
  • Design and implement Power Automate workflows to support reporting automation, data refresh notifications, approval processes, and integration between Power BI and other enterprise systems.
  • Recommend and / or champion ideas and innovations aligned with organizational goals.Β 
  • Lead and participate in the development, documentation, and execution of test cases and test scripts for solutions to identify and correct issues.
  • Support the team in day-to-day tasks and ad-hoc assignments, proactively taking responsibility for planned and unplanned work required by clients.

Education/Occupational Certification:

  • Graduated from a recognized university or college with a degree/certification in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Management Information Systems

Experience:

  • 3+ year experience with Microsoft Power BI, requirements gathering,Β design, development, testing and implementation of reporting solutions. Experience designing semantic models using best practices in DAX, and data modeling.
  • 3+ year experience with Microsoft Power BI, administration, developing best practices, standards, processes, and methodologies. Β 
  • 3+ year experience promoting and supporting Power BI platform and user group community.
  • 3+ year experience working with database technology, Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Lake, and programming languages such as DAX and SQL.
  • Experience in Microsoft Fabric - workspaces, apps, semantic models, dataflows, notebooks, pipelines, OneLake, SQL analytics.
  • Experience with Azure Databricks.

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of business intelligence, data management, and analytics methodologies, including data warehousing, data quality, reference/master data, and delivery using SDLC, Agile, and DevOps practices.
  • Expertise in Power BI and Fabric data modeling and design, including star/snowflake schemas, fact/dimension tables, semantic models, and advanced DAX and SQL for optimized calculations and queries.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric enablement, Lakehouse architecture, Direct Lake, dataflows, semantic model integration.Β  Experience using Power BI Copilot to accelerate development and adoption.
  • Knowledge of Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and notebooks for building structured data pipelines supporting downstream analytics and reporting.
  • Knowledge of user interface, and data visualization design and best practices.
