Overview
Senior Financial Analyst reports to the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale/Yale Repertory Theatre (DGSD/YRT) Lead Administrator.Β Oversees and serves as subject matter expert for LRP, Annual budgeting Cycle, Q2 Forecast, Internal HAUS system annual and intermittent updates. Responsible bi-weekly financial reporting to planning unit, payroll reporting and planning, University Service Provider (USP) credit card reconciliation and Monthly and Quarterly financial review checklist.Β Serves as process support for YBT, (Yale Budgeting System), YDX and Workday reporting. Works with all levels of management to aide in identifying risks and trends that enable unit and/or University leadership to make informed decisions.Β Β Assists with recommending improvements to systems, methods, practices, policies, and procedures through information review.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Financial Modeling and Forecasting. Using tools like Excel to build models that help with projections, scenario analysis, and business decisions. Tracking KPIs and preparing financial reports. Understanding key business drivers, with key understanding of variance analysis. Provides technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Organizes information from a variety of sources for use in analyzing future plans and forecasts. Collaborates with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to gather, analyze, summarize, prepare, and present recommendations regarding financial plans and other complex financial matters. Researches and evaluates information to resolve issues and makes recommendations. Develops and/or executes complex financial models.
2. Financial Analysis and Reporting. Assisting with budgeting and monthly close processes. Analyzes and synthesizes information and designs and creates accurate and timely reports. Designs financial reporting to meet the compliance needs of internal and external users. Extracts and consolidates data from multiple sources.
3. Financial Methods and Systems. Contributes to the planning and improvement of practices, processes and systems. Collaborates with all levels of internal and external contacts to carry out department goals. Provides a high level of service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and communicates effectively; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy and relationship management.
Β 4. Strategic Resource. Translates department finance goals into objectives. Identifies and raises potential financial opportunities, issues, risks, ideas and solutions. Identifies the appropriate stakeholders to include in consultations, communications, approvals or buy-ins for designing and implementing changes. Β
5. Compliance and Risk Management. Establishes, implements and/or maintains strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements.
6. Mentors, leads and/or supervises staff.
7. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Thorough working knowledge of finance, fund accounting, and financial reporting analysis. Demonstrated ability preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans; integrating multiple complex pieces of financial information to identify themes, trends, and issues.
2. Solid understanding of internal control concepts and the implementation of internal control systems in a complex business environment. Demonstrated ability to explain complex financial data and concepts to non-financial partners. Excellent written and oral communication skills
3. Demonstrated excellence in a team environment with a commitment to customer service.Β Strongly demonstrated ability to work effectively and flexibly with many staff, students, interns, and other professionals representing a diversity of personalities, gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigration status.
4. Strongly demonstrated aptitude for electronic data and excellent computer skills with the ability to prepare reports that are consistent, valid and reliable. Special focus on Microsoft Office specifically Excel and PowerPoint skills, i.e. pivots, complex formulas, queries, and presentation development
5. Ability to work with conflicting demands, time pressures, and deadlines; high level of accuracy. Ability to work on and prioritize a wide variety of complicated tasks simultaneously. Strongly demonstrated ability to handle complex numbers, accuracy, and ability to pay attention to detail
Preferred Education and Experience
2-3 years of working experience in a prior Financial Planning & Analysis role, audit or related role and strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
