This position supports our medical professional liability line of business and reports to an office 2 days per week. Birmingham AL is preferred, but we may consider qualified candidates who are located near other office locations.
The position is primarily responsible for supporting the Finance needs of the Specialty P&C Segment, including strategic planning initiatives, routine forecasting, periodic analysis, and preparation of financial presentations with little supervision. This position conducts comprehensive data and trend analysis using the appropriate data sources and models and presents results in written visual and/or oral form to a variety of audiences.
What you'll do:
25% - Support for the Segmentβs strategic and planning initiatives:Β
- Develop and maintain the companyβs financial analysis model; assist senior management in evaluating the financial implications of business decisions and new opportunities to create and integrate process automation.Β
- Collect information, assist in financial analysis, and provide recommendations to senior management.Β
- Prepare re-forecasts for current year and future year income statement projections.Β
- Assist in the development of the operating expense budget, planning, and other financial requirements.Β
- Interact with cost center managers and proactively work to meet deadlines and ensure quality data outcomes.Β
25% - Periodic analysis:
- Including Analyses the impact of premium assumptions, reinsurance terms, and marketing changes as they impact the financial condition of the company.
- Prepare regular analysis of actual versus budget related to premiums, losses, underwriting expenses, and other income.Β
- Assist with regulatory requests.Β
20% - Financial presentation preparation:Β
- Assist in preparation of financial presentations for use by members of senior management for company committee meetings, internal management meetings, and other meetings as needed.Β
- Prepare or assist with preparation of a variety of financial reports or portions of financial reports based on assigned basis of accounting or audience (GAAP, SAP, management).Β
20% - Collaborate with corporate financial system administrator to implement improvements to the ledger and reporting and budgeting software. Responsible for maintaining the actual and forecast data within the database, population of budget workbooks, data recalculations, and data interfaces. Provide budget software support to various lines of business.Β
10% - May prepare journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation including transactions, reconciliations, and account maintenance. Special projects as directed.Β
What we're looking for:
- Degree in accounting/finance with a minimum of five yearsβ experience in an analytical role. Β Β
- A good understanding of insurance accounting principles as well as a general understanding of reinsurance principles would be a plus. Β
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) a plus.Β
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word required. Significant work in general ledger software is a plus.Β
- Ability to inter-relate the various components of the company, i.e. claims, premium, marketing, etc., to effectively develop and manage the dynamic financial analysis model. The ability to see the big picture is a must.Β
- Superior written and oral communication skills required. Must be able to prepare and present high quality written communications for executive, regulatory, and other critical audiences.Β
- Excellent organization and interpersonal skills required.Β
- Must be able to work independently as well as effectively work with others.Β
- Independently manages time to complete tasks and projects by setting due dates.Β
- Acts as a business partner with respect to requests for financial information by considering data integrity, confidentiality, and needs of the party requesting the information.Β

Position Salary Range
$74,713.00 - $123,289.00
The salary range displayed represents the entirety of the pay grade for this position. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, your location and comparison to other team members already in this role.
