Position Purpose:

The BH Data Specialist will be responsible for developing, collecting, reporting, and tracking encounters and quality outcome data using electronic health records (Next-Gen), i2i, and health plan reports. Upon request, they will implement and maintain Behavioral Health/Substance Use Disorder (BH/SUD) data and recurring reports, as well as dashboards that utilize underlying data sources for both internal and external use.

This position requires advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, and other databases. The ideal candidate must have a thorough understanding of macros, pivot tables/charts, queries, filters, and data analysis in a healthcare setting. In addition, experience using web-based data portals, SFTP, and writing/running queries in Next-Gen is required.

Working with cross-functional teams, the Data Specialist will also assist programs including Case Management, Substance Use programs, Administration, and the Finance Department with data reporting needs. These include Capitation and Fee-for-Service (FFS) Reconciliation reports, monthly dashboards, provider productivity reports, and more. The specialist will thoroughly analyze and clarify report requirements, make recommendations, and provide education when necessary to meet business needs. They will also be responsible for creating and maintaining internal controls and reference materials to promote data quality.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Collect, report, and track encounter and outcome data from Next-Gen, i2i, and other health plan data systems for Behavioral Health, Case Management, Substance Use Disorder, Finance, and Administration programs.
  2. Mine data from primary and secondary sources, then reorganize it into formats that can be easily understood by the organization and end users.
  3. Use statistical tools to interpret data sets, with a focus on identifying trends and patterns valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics.
  4. Demonstrate the significance of data analysis in the context of local, national, and global trends that impact the organization and the broader industry.
  5. Prepare reports for department directors and executive leadership that clearly communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.
  6. Collaborate with programmers, IT staff, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvement, recommend system modifications, and support the development of data governance policies.
  7. Create clear documentation that enables stakeholders to understand, replicate, and validate the data analysis process.
  8. Develop and maintain reference materials such as data dictionaries, codebooks, and report specifications.
  9. Design and maintain business intelligence dashboards.
  10. Apply a design thinking approach to develop data visualizations that are useful, clear, and insightful for the intended audience(s).
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Sociology or Psychology with a background in data support and advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, and other databases; or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems with prior experience in Health or Behavioral Health.
  2. At least 2 years of experience working in data support, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health setting.
  3. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Microsoft 365, Access, and other databases.
  4. Training and experience with the Next-Gen Electronic Health Record system or a similar EMR.
  5. Knowledge of the i2i database preferred.
