GENERAL SUMMARY
The Business Intelligence Engineer III is responsible for developing and maintaining the company’s reporting and analytics solutions, ensuring stakeholder access to accurate, optimally presented data for actionable insights. This role is the primary business-facing representative of the data team and is expected to have expert knowledge of our data, including its structure, usage, and business meaning.  

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP 

Under the general supervision of the department director, the BI Engineer works closely with other engineers in the Data and QA teams and frequently interacts with end users and other stakeholders. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Business Intelligence Development 

  • Design, build, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations
  • Write optimized queries to support complex business analysis in reports and ad-hoc queries
  • Ensure accuracy, reliability, and performance of all reports and analytics solutions
  • Drive development of advanced analytics capabilities with machine learning and AI 

Stakeholder Engagement and Support 

  • Act as primary point of contact for business users regarding reporting and data inquiries
  • Conduct trainings and office hours to improve self-service analytics adoption and outcomes
  • Gather and analyze business requirements, translating them into technical solutions
  • Respond to user tickets and bug reports in a timely manner

Data Modeling and ETL 

  • Assist in designing and optimizing data models for reporting and analytics purposes
  • Work with Data Engineers to define and improve data processes that serve reporting needs
  • Participate in troubleshooting and performance tuning of up stream data storage and processing

Operational Support 

  • Monitor and maintain the performance and availability of all reports and analytics solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve reporting-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime for end users
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency across the data environment
  • Enforce data governance policy

Collaboration 

  • Manage and prioritize work in ticketing system
  • Maintain regular communication in stand-ups and stakeholder meetings
  • Participate incode reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and high-quality deliverables
  • Contribute to technical documentation for processes, tools, and workflows

Leadership & Mentorship 

  • Mentor other team members by sharing knowledge and providing guidance on best practices
  • Take ownership of complex projects, ensure timely delivery of solutions that meet requirements
  • Advocate for adoption and usage of our tools and new technologies across the company

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data engineering, data science, or related field
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage non-technical stakeholders effectively
  • Expert knowledge of reporting/data visualization tools, such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Expert knowledge of one or more relevant languages, such as SQL or Python
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and ETL best practices
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and best practices.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI concepts and their applications to business intelligence
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex tasks

 

WORKING CONDITIONS


This role will be based out of our Preferred Travel Group office in Newport Beach or Chicago. With our in-office philosophy, our associates are expected to be in the office at least three days per week, supporting a healthy balance between in-person collaboration and flexible remote work.

Some domestic and international travel may be required for trade shows, events, and meetings. The role is primarily desk-based with standard office tools.

 

REQUIRED TRAINING 

  1. Orientation via some live remote and some pre-recorded video sessions
  2. IT security training
  3. Internal development process and procedures

SALARY

$110,000 - $120,000 actual compensation within this range will be determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise.
