Financial Analyst

SMS Equipment is seeking a detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive Analyst (internally titled Operations Analyst) to support our Fort McMurray Region. In this role, you will support operational excellence by delivering high‑quality financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and audit coordination. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on financial accuracy, operational insight, and improving processes that drive strong business performance.

Work Location: Fort McMurray, AB
Salary: $110,00 - $120,000 annually
Work arrangement: Fixed on site – working 5 days a week from the office
Schedule: Monday to Friday

What You'll Do

  • Perform weekly expense analysis, monthly forecasting, and P&L variance reviews for Operations Managers.
  • Monitor service and parts margins and prepare management and ad hoc reports.
  • Support annual budget preparation, including data review, template inputs, and fixed asset requirement gathering.
  • Collaborate with branch leaders and Acheson Accounting to meet budget deadlines.
  • Investigate and respond to internal and customer audit requests, ensuring leadership is informed.
  • Plan, conduct, and support internal audits as required.
  • Process CER documents, open and track fixed asset work orders, and coordinate annual fixed asset counts.
  • Maintain procurement controls, ensuring policy compliance from requisition to receipt.
  • Review weekly procurement workflows, resolve anomalies, and document items older than 30 days.
  • Support additional projects to strengthen internal controls, procedures, and reporting.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a bachelor’s degree in business/commerce. Additional qualifications include:

  • Previous accounting experience (e.g., AP/AR, variance analysis, forecasting, auditing, or financial reporting).
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
  • Experienced with computerized accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated financial analysis, audit, and business process improvement experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and follow‑up discipline.
  • Ability to maintain organization, manage competing priorities, and support cross‑functional teams.
