About Alaffia & Our Mission

We’ve assembled a team of clinicians, AI engineers, and product experts to build advanced AI solutions that will directly bend the cost curve for all patients across the healthcare ecosystem. Collectively, we’re building best-in-class AI software to provide our customers with co-pilot tools, AI agents, and other cutting-edge solutions to reduce administrative burden and reduce healthcare costs.Β

We’re a high-growth, venture-backed startup based in NYC and are actively scaling our company.

About the Role & What You'll Be Doing

Alaffia Health is a healthcare AI startup revolutionizing medical billing, analytics, and data automation. As we scale, we are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to own our reporting stack end-to-end, ensure high-quality insights for both internal teams and clients, and serve as the go-to expert for Alaffia reporting.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the reporting lifecycle for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring all reports and dashboards are delivered on time, with high accuracy, and clear documentation.

  • Partner with product, operations, business, and engineering teams to define reporting requirements, translate business questions into well-specified data models and metrics, and build robust reporting solutions.

  • Design and maintain BI data models and semantic layers that power dashboards, scheduled reports, and ad-hoc analysis on all operational data.

  • Develop and maintain report-focused internal tools and apps in Retool, enabling self‑service analytics and operational workflows for non-technical users.

  • Execute and automate manual reporting workflows, gradually replacing one-off or spreadsheet-heavy processes with repeatable, well-tested ETL/ELT pipelines.

  • Establish and maintain reporting SOPs and documentation, including data dictionaries, metric definitions, and runbooks for recurring reports.

  • Drive data quality and consistency across reports by implementing validation checks, reconciliation processes, and clear definitions for key business metrics.

  • Support external client reporting needs, including custom report builds, one-off analyses, and investigations into anomalies or unexpected trends.

You’ll be a key partner in turning raw healthcare claims and operational data into trusted, actionable insights for our customers and internal teams.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensure all internal and external reports are delivered on-time and with accuracy, including scheduled client deliverables and internal operational dashboards.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to produce detailed reporting requirements, documentation, and SOPs, ensuring clarity on metric definitions and data lineage.

  • Execute, maintain, and progressively automate manual reporting tasks, using SQL, scripting, and BI tooling to reduce operational burden.

  • Own and enhance report-focused apps in Retool, including building new views, improving UX, and integrating with underlying data sources.

  • Partner with data engineering to design and improve ETL/ELT workflows and data models that support scalable, performant reporting.

  • Perform data investigations and root-cause analyses when report discrepancies, anomalies, or data quality issues occur, and drive resolution.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on healthcare claims reporting, helping internal and external stakeholders interpret trends, metrics, and exceptions.

  • Data Warehousing – Strong familiarity with dimensional modeling and warehouse concepts (star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions, etc.).

  • ETL / ELT Workflows – Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines that feed BI models and reports.

  • Excel – Comfortable with advanced Excel for analysis, reconciliation, and prototyping reports when needed.

  • JavaScript – Working knowledge to build and maintain report-focused apps in Retool or similar internal tools platforms.

Technical Skills (Bonus)

  • Experience with modern BI tools (e.g., Looker, Mode, Tableau, Metabase, or similar).

  • Familiarity with dbt or similar transformation frameworks.

Experience (Core)

  • Demonstrated experience delivering external client custom reports, including gathering requirements, validating outputs with stakeholders, and iterating based on feedback.

  • Proven track record as a Business Intelligence Engineer / Reporting Engineer / Analytics Engineer or similar role focused on operational and client-facing reporting.

Experience (Bonus)

  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment, comfortable with ambiguity and evolving requirements.

  • Prior work at a payer, health tech company, or healthcare analytics vendor.
