The Analytics & Business Intelligence Engineer serves in a hybrid role, combining strong business intelligence and visualization acumen with data modeling expertise. This position is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing data models, curated datasets, and Power BI dashboards that support strategic decision-making at all levels of the institution. The engineer plays a critical role in shaping the university’s decision support infrastructure, supporting predictive modeling and AI initiatives through clean, structured data, and delivering trusted business intelligence tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards with a focus on usability and impact.

- Build and optimize DAX measures, data models, and row-level security in Power BI.

- Develop curated datasets and semantic layers to support consistent and reusable reporting.

- Write advanced SQL queries and transform data from Snowflake, Workday, and other systems into analytics-ready formats.

- Automate reporting workflows and data refresh processes using Power Automate and related tools.

- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting needs into technical solutions.

- Support data quality validation and implement governance best practices for BI assets.

- Prepare structured datasets for use in predictive modeling, AI tools, and knowledge graphs.

- Document data definitions, metric logic, and data lineage for transparency and reuse.

- Stay current with trends in business intelligence and analytics to recommend new tools and techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

- Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and shared datasets.

- Demonstrated understanding of data visualization principles to ensure dashboards are intuitive, user-friendly, and aligned with stakeholder decision-making needs.

- Strong SQL and data modeling skills, particularly for Snowflake.

- Working knowledge of Power Automate and Microsoft 365 tools.

- Understanding of semantic layer design and dimensional data modeling principles.

- Familiarity with Workday data structures and reporting processes.

- Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate technical findings to non-technical users.

- Attention to detail and a commitment to data quality and documentation.

- Curiosity and adaptability in supporting AI and predictive analytics efforts with structured data.

Position Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, data analytics, or a related field; Master’s preferred.

- Minimum of three years of experience in Power BI development and report automation.

- Experience building semantic models and analytics-ready views in Snowflake or similar platforms.

- Familiarity with preparing data for use in data science or AI applications.

- Preferred: Experience in higher education or a similarly complex environment.
