Job Description




The Business Analyst (BA) supports the EDI team in the Office of Medicaid Operations. Β The BA typically performs activities which may include: research for enrollment related issues for Trading Partner agreements, Remittance Advice assignment, or Billing agent association; research electronic claim submission issues based on phone or email inquiries from providers, billing agents, and clearinghouses; and perform testing of EDI data from various sources to insure HIPAA compliance; help providers identify claim rejections within the electronic data interchange (EDI) process; assure deadlines are met; and ensure federal and state regulation, policy, and procedure compliance through audits.

The ideal candidate hired for this position will have experience:

  • Experience in customer service role via email and phone support
  • Effectively communicating and expressing complex issues in meetings where
    many different opinions exist.
  • Moderate to expert skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
    Access)
Β Preference may be given to applicants having:
  • Familiarity with Medicaid or Medicaid programs
  • Previous experience analyzing HIPAA EDI data as related to medical claims.
  • Understanding complex joins in database querying/simple to intermediate SQL/VBS queries.

Note: as of April 8, 2024, DHHS employees will be working a hybrid schedule, which includes 2 office days per week and 3 telework days.

Responsibilities

  • Phone and email workloads to support Provider, Billing agents, and
    Clearinghouses proper enrollment as related to electronic billing and the ability to
    submit claims in correct x12 format per 5010 Transaction type.
  • Support the implementation of HIPAA EDI related projects.
  • Analyze EDI errors to determine correct solutions for various HIPAA rejections.Β 
  • Monitors system performance to ensure proper operation and identify possible
    problem areas.
  • Analyzes, summaries and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results
    and/or makes recommendations.
  • Identifies problems or potential problem areas and recommends solutions.
  • Enters data into a computer system and retrieves, analyzes corrects, or deletes
    the previously entered data.

  • EffectiveΒ July 1, 2021, State of Utah Employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to Utah within 30 days of their start date.

  • This position may currently be a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion, at any time, and for any reason.
